Do copywriting in your email campaign

Want to double or triple the number of new leads and customers you generate each month with your emails?

Try focusing your email campaign with copywriting techniques.

Copywriting in emails is the art of using attractively written content focusing around a service or product to sell.

A tool used to tempt the reader by making the items for sale seem attractive, desirable and at the same time beneficial.

Copywriting is often described as a play on words where the best and the most persuasive campaigns win.

Whenever you email someone, you’re basically trying to sell a point.

So what better way to communicate than with the language of copywriting in your emails.

The secret is to balance the right blend of benefits and features in your email marketing copy.

Here are some tips to try in your next email marketing campaign.

1. Pack a powerful headline punch.

Check top magazine article headlines of the day to see what’s working best.

Tailor yours accordingly.

2. Draw readers in with a great lead opening.

Look to top articles in the news for ideas.

And reach out and grab your readers in a similar fashion.

3. Keep the main message focused on no more than 3 main benefits your product or service offers the reader.

Present credible info, not hype.

And include testimonial when possible to back up claims.

4. State your proposition in a personal way, since the focus is all about the customer

i.e. write in the “You” form, not “he or she.”

And talk about them or things that they can relate to.

5. Focus on customer benefits.

People like to save money, join in and be a part, learn more, earn more.

6. Offer multiple selling points in bullet form.

Write them from customer’s point of view & reflect their needs.

7. Thoroughly describe the product.

Give the customer all the information they need on the product or service in order to make a well educated decision.

8. Create a call to action.

Tell the customer what to do exactly, step-by-step.

9. State your unique selling position to differentiate yourself from competition.

For example, tell why your product is better than the competition’s.

Go for the gusto in selling your email messages with sound copywriting techniques.

Sell your audience on reading more, navigating on your site and communicating in some way to show they got your message.

Email marketing is still relevant for online business

How do you communicate with your customers?

We all know that there’s getting to be more and more online activity.

How much?

It makes me further think about how we communicate with our customers.

Some businesses have jumped into the blog world in hopes that their customers will come and engage with them online.

That works for some but this strategy doesn’t work well for many small businesses because their business just isn’t the type to draw attention to itself such that a customer would want to come and read about them in the normal course of the day.

Do you want to know what’s going on in the world of sandwich making, hair cutting, or pool/spa maintenance?

Me either, not so much that I would return again and again to hear it.

The good news is that I would like to hear about special offers my hair cutting place has or new sandwiches my favorite sub place has coming out.

And I, like most people, would like to hear about it through email.

It is effective and personal because it comes from you, allowing you to share offers and news.

What’s more, it allows you to develop a relationship with your customers.

This is all good and true, but knowing this and doing nothing about it will not help you grow your business.

Don't lose your email leads In the spam filter

Chances are you could be missing important business opportunities if your email Inbox utilizes a spam filter.

Take a few minutes now to investigate your email screening procedures for messages received from unknown senders.

You might even discover a new client hiding among the spam!

Email inquiries from new business prospects, which by definition are unknown and unexpected when they arrive in your Inbox, can take a detour to your spam box without your knowledge.

When was the last time you did not receive an email sent by a client or friend?

Failed email delivery can be quite common.

Usually the sender just emails you again until you receive the message.

Now imagine a situation where somebody sends you an email that you don’t receive, but they don’t tell you about it.

Attorneys or paralegals frequently contact a number of experts via email and engage the most qualified candidate who responds first.

You miss out on a potential engagement if the email inquiry does not show up in your inbox.

Here are five easy steps to protect your email, receive incoming leads and avoid technical nightmares:

1. Check your spam box often if you use automated email filtering. Microsoft Outlook and AOL give you the ability to control the settings and security levels for your incoming email.

2. Add a response form to your Website. Your Webmaster can set this up so that you are automatically alerted with an email recognized by your server.

3. Update your “safe” and “blocked” sender lists often, especially if delivery is controlled at the ISP level. Add a law firm’s email domain to your approved email list when you get a new client from the firm.

4. Separate business from personal correspondence by using two different email accounts.

5. Avoid downloading free software or clicking on unsolicited ads. If you do, you may find yourself subject to a virus or malicious Adware attack.

Keep your mailing list simple

The right direct mailing list targets people who want your product or service.

The direct mail mailing list is a key factor in a successful direct mail marketing campaign and a major point to consider in small business marketing strategies where marketing ROI (Return On Investment) is a key concern.

What really makes your direct mail marketing and advertising campaign successful?

The biggest single factor in the success of your direct mail marketing strategy is who you send your mailings to.

A. You need a list.

This can be:

1) a list of existing customers or prospects who have inquired as a result of any of your marketing efforts or

2) a list which you purchase or in some cases obtain for free.

B. The mailing list must contain the names of people who are likely to be interested in the benefits of your products or services.

Don’t try and sell beer to the Temperance Society or real estate to people who cannot afford it. You have to target your direct mail marketing efforts.

What kinds of lists are available?

C. The three basic kinds of lists that you can use are (you can use all three):

1. Your own list of prospects and customers.

This is a list that you collected with your own personal marketing efforts.

This is known as a house list. These people are most likely to respond to your offers, because they have responded in the past.

2. A response list is a list of people that have actually done something.

They have either purchased something from the people who put together the list or inquired in response to some offer or asked to be on the list.

They have some level of interest in the topic or purpose of the list.

These people have not previously responded to you, but they have responded to someone in a related area (if you have purchased a correctly targeted list) so you know they are at least warm.

This is a direct mail mailing list you can purchase from the owner of the list (such as a magazine or company) or a list broker.

3. A compiled list is a list of people who were selected to be on the list because they possess the characteristics that you asked the list broker to screen for.

Examples of characteristics used to target correctly may include age, sex, geographic location, income level, etc.

These are more fixed characteristics than response list characteristics, which are behavioral characteristics.

Mailing lists, correctly targeted, can make the difference in a mediocre promotional campaign to a wildly successful promotional campaign.

It really just depends on what you are willing to have – success or mediocrity.
